Toffee Bars (Cathy) by


1/2 lb butter
1 c light brown sugar
1 egg yolk
2 c flour
1 t vanilla extract
12 oz semi-sweet choc chips
1 c shelled pecans, coarsly chopped


Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 13x9 pan (or jelly roll pan if you want bite-size pieces). Cream butter and sugar; add egg yolk and beat well. Sift in flour, mixing well, and then add vanilla. Spread batter in pan. Bake for 20 minutes (15). Remove pan and turn off oven. Immediately cover cake layer with chocolate chips and return to oven for 2-3 minutes. Remove from oven and spread chocolate evenly. Sprinkle with nuts. Cool completely before cutting.
