Texas Sheet Cake - Mom by

Family favorite!


2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup water
1/2 cup oil
1 stick butter
4 T cocoa powder
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk (or 1/2 T vinegar to 1/2 cup milk)
1 T vanilla

1 stick butter
4 T cocoa powder
6 T milk
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Topping - chopped walnuts (optional)


Mix flour, sugar & baking soda in large bowl.

Bring to a rapid boil in pan on stove; water, oil, 1 stick butter and 4 T cocoa. Pour boiled mixture over flour mixture and mix well.

Mix in eggs, buttermilk & 1 T vanilla.

Bake on large cookie sheet for 20 minutes in 350 degree oven.

Mix frosting ingredients together and frost cake while still warm. Top with chopped nuts if you like.
