Basic White Bread for Bread Machine (Welbuilt 100-4) by

This recipe is for use with the Welbuilt 100-4 Bread Machine, which makes a 2lb loaf. I have optimized the recipe from the original one, which was printed in the Welbuilt 100-4 user's guide.


1 1/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons water (cold, directly from tap)
3 tablespoons oil (we use peanut)
3 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons salt
4 cups all purpose flour
2 packages (0.25 oz dry weight) of active dry yeast


Add ingredients to bread machine basin in the order listed. The flour should completely cover the water. Pour all yeast into machine in one small area against the side of the basin. Make sure that the yeast do not immediately contact the water; they should sit atop the flour. Start the machine on Basic cycle. The bread will be done in about 4.5 hours.
