I had to watch my grandmother make these to know the texture of the dough was right.

Ingredients

2 pkg. dry yeast 1 cup warm water 1 cup whole milk 1/2 cup sugar 1 stick butter 1 teas. salt 2 eggs, beaten 6 cups plain flour

Instructions

Mix yeast with warm water. Scald the milk and let cool and then mix with the yeast. Stir in the sugar and the salt. Mix in 3 cups of sifted flour, one cup at a time. Add beaten eggs and stir. Then add the last 3 cups of flour, 1 cup at a time. Cover bowl with wax paper and put damp dishclothe on top and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour. Work down with flour and roll out like biscuit dough and cut into rolls. Place on buttered baking sheet. Smear with melted butter on top. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes in a warm place. Bake in oven at 400 for approx. 15 minutes. (You may pre-bake at 300 for 15 minutes and then brown later).
