Ingredients

1/3 C. Sugar 1 C. Margarine or Butter, softened 1/2 tsp. Vanilla 2 C. Pillsbury BEST All Purpose Flour 1/4 tsp. Salt 1 1/2 C. Miniature Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips 2 tsp. Shortening

Instructions

1. Heat the oven to 375 degrees. In large bowl, combine sugar, margarine, and vanilla; beat until light and fluffy. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cups; level off. Add the flour and salt; blend well. Stir in 1 cup of the chocolate chips. Refrigerate dough 15 minutes for easier handling.

2. On lightly floured surface with lightly floured hands, roll dough into 7-inch ropes about 3/4 inch in diameter. Place on ungreased cookie sheets; shape ropes into letters. (Some letters may be smaller or larger than others.) To make letters all the same size, add or pinch off small pieces of dough.

3. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-13 minutew or until edges are light golden brown. Cool 1 minutes; carefully remove from cookie sheets. Cool 5 minutes or until completely cooled.

4. In small saucepan, combine remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips and shortening; melt over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Drizzle in striped pattern over cooled cookies. 2 dozen cookies
