Pioneer Woman's baked ziti by Ed


Meat sauce ingredients 6 cloves minced garlic 2 medium onions diced 1-28 ounce cans of San Marzano tomatoes 2 jars prepared spaghetti sauce 1 cup grated parm cheese 2 tbs salt 2 tbs oregano 2 tbs basil 2 lbs ground beef Cheese mixture 1/ cup grated parm 15 ounces ricotta 2 eggs 2 tbs parsley 2 cups mozzarella 1 lb ziti cooked al dente with plenty of salt


Meat sauce...
Brown ground beef and onions. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Drain meat mixture. Add San Marzano tomatoes and mash tomatoes. Add prepared sauce, cheese, oregano,basil and salt. Simmer for 1 hour. Set 3-4 cups aside to cool.

Cheese mixture...
Combine all ingredients. Mix together lightly.

Cook pasta al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water. Combine with cheese mixture. Toss lightly(should be a little lumpy). Add 3-4 cups of cooled meat sauce.

Coat bottom of baking dish with meat sauce. Layer 1/2 pasta mixture. Top with a layer of sauce. Next, a layer of mozzarella. Repeat with another layer pasta, sauce, mozzarella. Bake uncovered in 375 degree oven until bubbling, about 30 minutes.
