Peelay Chaaval (Turmeric Rice) by

Recipe taken from this blog: Once Upon a Feast.

Serve it with Rogan Josh.

Ingredients

- basmati rice: 150 g uncooked
- water
- salt: 1 tsp
- turmeric: 1 tsp
- cloves: 3
- cinnamon: 0.5 - 1 stick
- bay leaves: 3
- butter: 2 tbsp

Instructions

1. Clean the rice (rinse in a bowl until water gets clear).
2. Cover the rice with water (the water surface should be few centimetres above the rice) and let it soak for half an hour.
3. Drain the rice, put it into a pot, add 300 ml of water.
4. Add salt, turmeric, cloves, cinnamon and bay leaves. Bring to a boil.
5. Reduce the heat and cover. Cook for 25 minutes.
6. Turn off the heat and wait 10 minutes (pot have to be still covered).
7. Add butter and gently mix.
8. Remove spices before serving.

Serve with Rogan Josh or other Indian stew.
