Source: River Road Recipes

This is the recipe mom used for making ham & bean soup with cornbread - I would suggest you cutting this total recipe in half - not hard to fix- be sure and make jiffy cornbread to go with this - Good Comfort food!!

Ingredients

2 cups or 1 lb. pkg dried white northern beans
6 cups water - enough water to cover beans 2x for soaking
1 medium onion
1/4 cup chopped parsley
3 Tables. sugar
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons salt ( add salt to your own taste)
1 Honey Baked Ham bone and any leftover ham -trying to use up

Instructions

1st. Rinse beans well several times; pick thru to remove any bad looking beans

2nd. Cover beans in large cooking pan with enough water to cover beans rinse 2-3 times - they will expand overnight and use up most water - SOAK BEANS OVERNIGHT - before cooking drain water and add new water to cover beans -

3. Combine all ingredients in a large covered pan - simmer 2-3 hours

4. Cook until Ham falls away from bone and beans are good and tender.
