Sopas--Portuguese Beef Stew by

Unique and delicious!

Ingredients

4-5 lb. chuck roast


1/2 tsp. Allspice berries
1/2 tsp. Whole cloves
1/2 tsp. Cumin
3 cloves garlic, chopped
2 bay leaves
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 sm. can tomato sauce
1 sm. can tomato paste
3 cups water
3/4 cup red wine
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 tsp. salt
Day-old French or Italian bread, 1" slices

Instructions

Combine allspice and cloves in cheesecloth or a tea ball. Put everything except the bread in a pot. Bring to a boil. Turn down heat, cover and simmer on low for 6 hours or until very tender. Remove meat & shred with 2 forks removing any bones and fat. Serve meat and broth- soaked bread together.
